My Story…
I experienced SCAD (Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection where a tear forms in the lining which can restrict or stop blood flow) in 3 coronary arteries in February of 2018 at the age of 40. I had a heart attack and went in to cardiac arrest. For 10 minutes I received cpr, 7 shocks to my heart, 4 stents, and ended up on life support for 24 hours. I am lucky. I have no permanent heart damage. But like so many who have had SCAD, I have ongoing effects from it and so many unanswered questions. I have found peace and comfort from many involved in SCAD Research Inc, my hometown cardiologist, Dr. Hayes at Mayo Clinic, fellow SCAD survivors, other heart disease survivors through AHA, and my amazing family and friends. But, there is still so much to discover about this condition and I’m proud to help raise awareness and funds to assist in research.
