My Story…
May will be 9 years since my heart attack from Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) and the beginning of a journey for me & my family that we could never have imagined. I was healthy, in my 40's and had a heart attack for no apparent reason. Eventually I was correctly diagnosed with SCAD. My doctor told me that it was so rare that I was unlikely to ever meet another survivor in my lifetime. 2 years later, I did meet other survivors through SCAD Research Inc. 3 weeks after that, my dear friend Gail (Lydia & Lisa's sister) died of SCAD. I wasn't just scared anymore, I was determined to do something. Within the year, I was accepted into Mayo's SCAD Research program & joined SRI as a volunteer. Since then, I have also been diagnosed with FMD, but am so fortunate to have gotten to know the most inspirational & incredible survivors, family members impacted by SCAD, and of course, the Mayo heroes who are finding answers for us!
