Most people who know myself and the Mader family are aware of my brother's death in July 2018.
If not this is our story........
My baby brother, Trevor James Mader fought a very long, hard , and wearing battle with mental illness and addiction. With over 15 treatment centres under his belt we never gave up hope and he kept fighting.
Until one summer day in June 2018, June 29th to be exact at 3:15pm I received the last kiss I would ever get from my baby brother.
The next morning, June 30th which happens to be our Dad's birthday & my beautiful little niece's as well nobody could get in touch with him so I phoned a family friend to go over and gave him the key as I was so afraid of what I would find.
And then the call came " Chris , he won't wake up! what do I do? " " Call 911" I said and raced over to the apartment, where the paramedics were already trying to revive my brother. They got a pulse and worked on him for 45 mins. At this point I was not allowed to see him as they didn't know if he would live . I threw up in the parking lot waiting. More paramedics showed up. I couldn't breath.
I was then told to look away as they placed him in the ambulance. Again, I raced over to the hospital on the way calling my other baby brother (who is his twin) to inform him that our brother had had an overdose, Mom and Dad were already at his house for the birthday celebrations.
Now at this point he had to inform Mom and Dad what was happening.
I'm now at the hospital waiting for them to stabilize him. They get him stabilized. Phew that was a close call.
The thing I didn't know and nobody did at this point was that he had been without oxygen to his brain for too long. He would most likely never wake up as the damage was too great on his brain.
We held on with hope for 19 days. and on that fateful day July 19th , 2018 at the age of 39 years old we had to say goodbye to my beautiful brother, son, father and friend .
I want to thank you for hanging in there and reading our story, I've created this run/walk to raise money for addiction and mental health as well as end of life care as I firmly believe we ALL deserve to die with dignity.
Please join our run for HOPE, for anyone who is or has been affected by mental illness and addiction. If you are unable to join please think about donating to our foundation and help keep hope alive.
Sending love , hope & kindness
