Run with Purpose. Run as One. Finish with Pride. The National Veterans Memorial and Museum 5 Mile Run and Walk is an event to honor America’s heroes, all service men and women, past and present, who help keep our country safe and free. The event features a 5-mile course, each mile representing one of the service branches, an urban course through the streets of Columbus, Ohio and an exciting finish on top of the National Veterans Memorial and Museum.
A portion of each entry fee and event proceeds benefit the National Veterans Memorial and Museum.
Climb to Victory presented by Mount Carmel Health System.
Your run or walk is not complete until you make the exciting spiral "Climb to Victory" to finish atop of the National Veterans Memorial and Museum with the Columbus skyline as your backdrop. The finish up the spiral driveway to the top is challenging but it’s a small challenge compared to that of what many of our service men and women, and veterans experience throughout their service and lifetime.
Run with Purpose. Run As One. Finish with Pride. |
Each mile of the National Veterans Memorial and Museum recognizes each of the military service branches. Each mile honors, showcases and is dedicated to a service branch and includes veteran and active servicemen and servicewomen, each with a different story, each who have or are currently serving our country with honor, and our reason for running or walking.

Race Rules
Race Rules & Security
Welcome to the National Veterans Memorial and Museum Five-Miler (NVMM5). The 5-mile race starts at Genoa Park and finishes atop the National Veterans Memorial and Museum with a scenic course through Columbus and along the Scioto River. The NVMM5 team wants to make sure every runner has a memorable NVMM5 experience. In order to keep operations running smoothly, there are a few rules and policies you need to know before showing up at the race.
Race Day Policy
The race takes place rain or shine. No deferments. Entry fees are non-refundable.
Time Limit
NVMM5 uses the My Laps-timing system to time and score runners and walker. Every runner's race time starts when he/she crosses the start line so no worries if it takes a minute or two to get to the start.
All participants must cross the start and finish timing mats to receive an official race time and results. All participants must maintain a 16-minute mile pace or better, complete the entire course, and finish the race in 2 hours minutes to receive an official race time and results.
Anyone not completing the entire course will not receive an official race result.
Scoring ends at 11:00 a.m. and the finish line will close at 11:30 a.m.
Race Bib Policy
Race bib swapping is not allowed. Any unregistered runner that competes with a registered runner's race bib will be disqualified. NVMM5 officials take a firm position on handing off race bib numbers due to liability issues and the adverse impact on scoring, results and awards.
Security Policy
NVMM5 reserves the right to implement security policies that it deems necessary to ensure the safety and security of all runners/spectators for the race. In the event of any security incident/crisis response, runners and spectators will follow instructions from first responders (law enforcement/security, fire, and ambulance).
- Access to the start line: only registered runners (no spectators) with an official race bib are granted access to the start line.
- Access to race festivities: spectators/runners are subject to search (no exceptions).

About the National Veterans Memorial and Museum
More Than A Museum. A living tribute to over 40 million Americans who have served this nation since its founding.
It is time for America to remember and to honor its veterans, regardless of branch of service or era of conflict or peace. It is time to give a voice to every man and woman who has served, every mother and father who has lost a son or daughter, and every child who has lost a parent. It is time for the National Veterans Memorial and Museum (NVMM). There isn’t a single, dedicated museum to the veteran’s experience.
America has a long, proud history of military service and volunteerism during wartime. Heroes such as General George Washington and Senator John H. Glenn are well documented on the national stage. But there are others – nearly countless in number – whose military experiences are known only to family, friends and descendants. NVMM will preserve and share these stories so that their sacrifices for freedom are remembered.
NVMM is the only place where the stories of our veterans, their families and the Fallen – across all branches of service and all eras of conflict – will be told together. NVMM bridges historical events to current concerns to strengthen understanding and respect between veterans and civilians. This cultural institution stands as a place of inspiration for all visitors to come together as one people with a common bond and a shared pride in our veterans.
NVMM is neither a war memorial nor a military museum. NVMM takes visitors on a narrative journey telling individual stories and shared experiences of veterans throughout history. Paying tribute to the sacrifices of servicemen and women and their families. History is presented in a dynamic, participatory experience with photos, letters and personal effects, multi-media presentations, and interactive exhibits. Together, these elements link our national story to the larger context of world events since our country’s earliest days, and demonstrate the importance of individuals in shaping our history.
