Run or Walk for the Cure – CIBC FirstCaribbean's crusade in the Caribbean against cancer.

Run or Walk for the Cure has become CIBC FirstCaribbean's flagship activity and is one of the Caribbean’s largest cancer fundraising and educational initiatives raising more than USD$ 2.2million over the last seven years that it has been held.

CIBC FirstCaribbean's Run or Walk for the Cure has attracted thousands of participants from The Bahamas in the North to Trinidad in the South and the 15 other territories in between which make up the bank’s regional footprint. The event has spawned a regional network of sponsors, which has grown each year since its inception in 2012.

The efforts of these corporate partners coupled with the creative and tireless efforts of hundreds of CIBC FirstCaribbean employees who engage in diverse fundraising activities and events have propelled the fundraising from a modest USD$30 000 at the inception of the event seven years ago to the staggering USD$512,367.39 raised in 2018.

The funds generated from our annual run or walk, which is held in partnership with cancer care organisations in each territory, are truly life-changing. The funds are used primarily to assist with the purchase and maintenance of equipment used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

The funds are also used to provide assistance, care and counselling to patients and their families as well as to raise awareness and stress the importance of early detection, through education campaigns across the region.

All funds raised in Trinidad are donated to the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society (TTCS) for Prostate Cancer Screening. Our campaign to-date have assisted approximately a total of five hundred and seventy-three (573) men in Trinidad and Tobago. Over the years we have partnered with Dr. Roy Cape who has become our official spokesperson for the event.
