Spokes for Hope is a 20, 40, and 60 mile bike ride for the Children's Advocacy Center of Independence County. The CAC provides services to child abuse victims and their non-offending families in a five county area. All proceeds from this community event will go to support and maintain services that the CAC provides. Spokes for Hope will start and end at Compass Church, with the 60 mile route reaching Pleasant Plains.
About Children's Advocacy Center of Independence County:
Mission: To empower, protect, and heal victims of child abuse.
The Children's Advocacy Center of Independence County is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that was established in 2017 and began serving children in November 2018. The center is the 17th CAC in the state of Arkansas and provides coverage for Independence, Izard, Stone, Sharp, and Fulton counties.
Child Advocacy Centers were formed to decrease trauma in child abuse victims and increase prosecution success. Through a multidisciplinary team approach, all agencies involved in the case can work together to provide the child and family with a more child centered approach to cases. The CAC provides advocacy, child forensic interviewing, sexual assault examinations and evidence collection, trauma focused mental health services, and community education and prevention.
Any child abuse allegation that is called into the Arkansas Child Abuse Hotline or local, state or federal law enforcement can be brought to the CAC, so the staff can provide services alongside the investigative agency.
The agency is funded through community support, grants, and foundation support. All services are free to children and families.
