The Purpose of the DDR Dash 5k: Enrique "Kiki" Camarena was a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent, who lost his life in the effort to keep harmful drugs off the streets of America. In commemoration of Kiki's sacrifice, and in acknowledgment of thousands of agents and officers just like him who strive to make our world a safer place, the Young Marines Drug Demand Reduction (DDR Dash) 5K is part of our commitment to reaching out to our communities to promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
Where does the money go? After race expenses are paid, such as permits, timing, equipment rental, etc, any proceeds will benefit the Golden Gate Young Marines. The Young Marines strengthens the lives of Americas' youth by teaching the importance of self-confidence, academic achievement, honoring our veterans, good citizenship, community service and living a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The Young Marines promotes the mental, moral, and physical development of its members. The program focuses on character building and leadership and promotes a lifestyle that is conducive to being productive members of society. The mission of the Young Marines is to positively impact America's future by providing quality youth development programs for boys and girls that nurtures and develops its members into responsible citizens who enjoy and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

Start Waves: Due to the width of the Golden Gate Bridge and the fact that it will NOT be closed to the public, we need to make sure we are respectful of other runners and walkers. Therefore, we are dividing the participants into waves, beginning at 7:30AM and leaving approximately 3 minutes apart. ALL runners must be ready to leave the staging area at Fort Scott Parade ground promptly at 7:30AM with knowledge of their wave number so that when we reach the bridge, the starter may quickly start each wave on time. In order to make the waves competitive for our top runners and enjoyable for all participants, we encourage runners to register their best mile time, and we will use this information to make the first waves consist of similar speed runners. The later waves will include joggers and walkers. Please yield right and allow faster runners to pass.
Parking: Limited free parking is available along Storey Ave. and Merchant Road; carpool is highly encouraged. Metered parking is available at the corner of Storey Ave. and Lincoln Blvd. Please abide by all posted signs. Designated parking is available to Volunteers on a first-come first-serve basis.
Packet Pick Up: Race day pick up will be available at the Fort Scott Parade Ground by 6:30AM. Please wear your red cord to signify your commitment to a drug free lifestyle on the run!
