- The red-breasted merganser is the fastest-flying duck, hitting the throttle when it’s time to migrate and reaching speeds much higher than North America’s fasted posted highway speed!
- Most waterfowl species migrate at altitudes up to 1,220 metres (4,000 feet), but a mallard has been seen flying 6,400 metres (21,000 feet) high in the sky!
- In its lifetime, the Arctic tern may travel a total distance of 1.3 million kilometres or more!
It’s fall migration season and across Canada, flocks of ducks, geese and other birds are on the move in our skies. Why not put on a few migration miles of your own by waddling, wheeling, walking or running your favourite race distance? By registering for the first-ever Virtual Duck & Run you’ll give wings to Ducks Unlimited Canada’s wetland conservation work across the country.

About the 2019 Virtual Duck & Run
The 2019 Virtual Duck & Run can be run or walked from any location you choose. You get to do your own race, at your own pace, and in your own time. There are no restrictions and your commemorative band and buff will be shipped directly to you! No ruffled feathers, just smooth sailing!
You have until December 15, 2019 to register. Then, complete your run on or before December 31, 2019 and send us your confirmation of participation by emailing us a photo of the distance display on your running app, your running watch, or a running log. You can run from anywhere (even on your treadmill).
What your registration includes
Your registration in the 2019 Virtual Duck & Run includes:
An engraved commemorative “band” medal on a customized lanyard. This unique band is the same type used to band wild geese. Consider yourself banded – it will be a reminder of connection to and support of wetlands and the wildlife and people that depend on them.
