Help Jodie raise money

For participating in 2020 Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon & 5K

My Story…

I am very pleased to be running to raise funds for the Vancouver Association for the Survivors of Torture (VAST) for the third time in the Scotiabank Half Marathon and 5k. VAST provides psychological support and trauma counselling to refugees in BC who have experienced persecution and torture. Arriving in a new country and making a refugee claim can itself be very challenging for claimants, and VAST provides much needed support throughout this process. In the past two years we have been able to raise over $20,000 for VAST through this event. I'm looking forward to continuing to run for VAST this year and in the years to come. Thank you for your support!

Description

VAST supports refugees who arrive in British Columbia with psychological trauma resulting from torture, political violence, and other forms of persecution on the basis of race, religion, gender identity, and sexual orientation.

We support our clients through trauma-focused psychological counselling for refugees in one-on-one and group settings and through documentation, training, and referrals.

Our programs include the Getting Through It group (a weekly psychosocial support group for refugees on “getting through” their refugee claim) and a program to support the mental health of refugee children through art.

On June 24 please run with us in support of refugee mental health!
