My Story…
Dear friends,
This year has been such a challenging year for me. And for those who are aware, I lost my mom on Oct 19 (Monday). I am so connected with my mom, especially for the last 5+ years when she was in Toronto when I got to spend more time with her, making up all the lost time I was away from her (she lived in Vancouver before). However, this pandemic had basically "torn us apart", and had had a devastating impact on her because she had ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) 肌肉萎縮症 and her head and eyes were the only body parts she could move for the last 2 years. She had been staying at a long-term care home for the last three years. Due to the lock-down, she was deprived of the very essential family care and presence, which was a huge torture to her both in terms of physical and emotional needs. But as a fighter, my mom had never given up. She fought until the very end without whispering a word of complaint. She accepted and embraced her cross with joyful faith. That's why she has been a tremendous inspiration to me and to those around her. She witnessed for Christ not by words, but by living it out in her super tough life! In these last few years, Mom has taught me by courageously persevering until the very end, silently. Her optimistic and cheerful character had touched many people around her. 🥰
The doctor at the nursing home once said mom was the bravest woman in the world, and he found her to be a very joyful woman... 😇 論傳福音,媽媽比我更加成功!💪 Mom had touched more people with her outlook in life and unshakable faith, especially towards the end as a "living saint" (as described by many who know her personally) ✝️, than me by using words and other means. 🙏 I know that this is God's message to me, challenging me to stay even closer to Him to align with His Holy will and messages.
In spreading God's Salvation, we need to spread the essence of God's love, and it can't be spread by words alone. Faith has to be rooted in love. This is the essence of the message from God to me: I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, God may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. (Ephesians 3:16-17)
Roughly 2 weeks before my mom's passing, I told her that for this year's walkathon, I would walk a marathon "together" with her, and she enthusiastically responded by a firm "YES" (by blinking her eyes with conviction). That was a defining moment for me, showing how firmly she believed in the work of FLL in spreading God's love, and as a full "endorsement" and consent for me to devote so completely to my mission entrusted by God. Her moral and spiritual support has been crucial for me to carry on this mission. This defining moment will stay with me forever. While she could not even talk, her heart has always been with me through these years as my strong companion on this missionary journey in every aspect, morally, spiritually, financially, and mostly importantly, by setting a powerful example for and before me, and for all those who have known her or heard about her enduring and consistent witness by her very life!
Without my mom, there would be no FLL. Her legacy lives on in me and I desire to be her legacy on earth to continue her work, through FLL and through all of you! I appeal to you all to bring this legacy to fruition by your generous support, by your "yes". I am sure my mom is now in heaven interceding for me, our family, FLL, and all those who are supporting this mission. Pray to her as I am sure that she is interceding for you in heaven as you read this message. Thank you for your overwhelming love and care towards me, Bonny and our family these days! You have sustained us through all these challenges! Words cannot describe how grateful I am to God and to all of you! You have shown me what is the true meaning of merciful LOVE!! May all glory and praises be to God now and forever!!
Please be assured of my prayers for all of you, my dearest companions on this earthly pilgrimage! I long to partner with you to effectively bring God's love to the ends of the earth.
United in Christ,
Paul
