Help Minoo raise money

For participating in Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon Virtual Race 2020

My Story…

This October, I will be walking in the 5K Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon Virtual Race to raise funds to support newcomer seniors at North York Community House (NYCH) where I work. As you know, COVID-19 has brought the challenges faced by seniors to the forefront. Seniors are also at high risk of experiencing financial instability, anxiety, depression, and social isolation during this pandemic. Many of us have parents or grandparents in our lives who have struggled during this time with learning new technology, adjusting to physical distancing and not being able to have close contact with loved ones, and we know how upsetting it can be for them. Imagine if they were thousands of miles away from their families, did not have a lot of friends in the community, and didn’t speak English fluently. NYCH has been working tirelessly to make sure newcomer seniors receive the financial, social, and emotional support they need to make it through this pandemic, but we need your help!!

Description

Newcomers and their families face numerous barriers to starting their new lives here in Canada. Your kindness will create opportunities for them to settle successfully, thrive in their new settings and become leaders in the community.

Every year, over 20,000 people will come through our doors to access the programs and services we offer. Through generous donations like yours, new immigrants and refugees will receive free, one-on-one settlement help; immigrant professionals will develop their skills for workplace success; newcomer youth will feel more welcome in their new schools; families in under-resourced neighbourhoods will be encouraged to get active and stay healthy.

All funds raised by NYCH through the 2020 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon will support innovative children, youth, and family programs – providing opportunities for residents in northwest Toronto to gain confidence, build skills, and lead positive change in their neighbourhoods.
