My Story…
After taking a year off the Scotia Bank Marathon, I am once again signed up with our virtual team, Islington United Church, Running and Walking for Refugees. It has been a challenging year supporting our current refugee newcomer, a single man who arrived from Syria, via Turkey just before the COVID lockdown. We are expecting 2 more people to arrive in 2021. The funds we raise will support them for their first year in Canada. Interested in changing the lives of others for the better in a direct and compelling way? The “Running and Walking for Refugees Team” at Islington United Church would love to have you join us. For 41 years we have sponsored refugee families and individuals worldwide. Over a 12-month period we provide a safe, secure and welcoming environment including accommodation, furnishings, clothing, food, transportation, medical care, education, employment opportunities and friendship.
