My Story…
So, I've never done this before, fundraising that is. This is a cause that is very dear to our hearts. Eli's Place is a young organization that is devoted to creating a residential facility for the treatment of young adults who are suffering from anxiety, mental trauma and mental illness. At the moment, there is no place like it in Ontario and the need is great. We wish that we had had such a facility available to us a few years ago; life would have been so much better for our family. My wife, Carol, and I have committed to a 5k walk; not exactly a full marathon but a good chance to try out my new knee. I hope you'll support me. if you don't want to support me, support Carol. Either way, you are contributing to a great cause. Make it worth my while. Who knows, if this is a success, maybe I'll do it again next year!
Description
For the 119,000 young adults in Ontario grappling with serious mental illness, access to effective treatment is grossly inadequate. The cost in lives lived with debilitating challenges or lost to early death is far too great. The vision of Eli’s Place aims to bring hope. A first-of-its-kind in Canada, Eli’s Place is modelled after a leading rural, residential long-term treatment centre with proven success. Programs that incorporate therapeutic work, specialized care and skills training will offer a path to recovery for people in this underserved age group, giving them the tools to heal and move from simply surviving to living.
