RACE UPDATE FROM OUR WEBSITE/SOCIAL MEDIA:
To All our Des Plaines River Trail Races Athletes:
We have been informed by the Lake County Forest Preserve District that all Special Event Permits for 2020 have been canceled due to COVID-19. This means that the DPRT Races will not be held in 2020. Needless to say, this is a tremendous disappointment to us as we are sure it is to all of you.
Our plan is to hold the 2021 event on the same weekend as this year which would be October 9, 2021.An email has been sent to each registered participant (Please check your spam folder if you don't see it in your inbox) with your options for how to proceed with your current registration. We ask that you please reach out to us by May 31st, 2020 to let us know how you would like us to proceed. Again, our deepest apologies, but we greatly look forward to opening registration for the 2021 event and for a quick end of this pandemic. Stay safe and take care of yourselves!
This situation, as you know, is terribly regrettable and we sincerely wish we weren't in it! We'd love nothing better than to offer a fun race in October, but this year the Lake County Forest Preserve District has made the very difficult decision to cancel all group events for the health and safety of all. Thank you all for your understanding!
Stay Safe,
Ed Kelly and Brian Gaines
Race Directors (DPRT and Christmas in July Races)
==========================================================================
Welcome to the 11th running of the DPR Trail Half-Marathon, Marathon and 50 Mile Ultra Marathon along the beautiful and fast Des Plaines River Trail in Lake County, Illinois. This is a truly special running course. The DPR Trail is a wide, crushed gravel track, free of roots and rocks, and very flat. All of the major road crossings are managed by way of bridges or viaducts (with only 4 minor road crossings along the whole 50 Mile course, 2 on the Marathon course, and none for the Half-Marathon course). This is a great track through alternating lush forests and open wetlands. With cool temperatures expected, and given the flat terrain and ideal running surface, you'll find these to be extremely fast courses. It is a trail race so depending on weather conditions you may experience water on parts of the course. The Marathon is a BOSTON QUALIFIER. Come out and join us for a great run!
