Beginner Training Plan
If you are new to the half marathon or full marathon distance, have we got a treat for you! We have put together a free beginner training plan to help you get across the finish line, and hopefully enjoy the distance running experience! When you make that step up to a half, or full marathon, it is VERY important to have some type of training plan. The last thing you want is to injure yourself by training too much, or to have a miserable race day because you trained too little.
This plan will give you daily activities and proper distances to keep you progressing until race day, so you can achieve a goal that only 1% of the world’s population has achieved! Plus, we will be right there with you when you have questions or need help!
All you have to do is check the appropriate box in the “swag” section of registration, and we will do the rest! You must register by 8/1 to be eligible for the Marathon training plan and 9/12 for the Half Marathon training plan.
Here is a brief overview of what to expect:
- Half Marathon – 12 week plan beginning 9/16
- Full Marathon – 18 week plan beginning 8/5
- An introductory email detailing the training plan (what to expect and why)
- Weekly email (Fridays) with tips for the following week's schedule
- Four videos, spread throughout the plan, with important info about:
- Running shoes (why you need them, how to make sure you have the right ones)
- Clothing/Gear necessities (technical fabrics, hydration bottles, anti-chafe, etc.)
- Nutrition (why it is important, and what to use)
- Hydration (dehydration is the enemy)
- Someone to answer your training questions via a dedicated email address
Marathon Relay

Course Info
The race courses are fairly flat and fast, and the route includes plenty of shady neighborhoods, several golf courses, and enough crowd support to help you get to the finish for your first time or your fastest time. The marathon course has some rolling hills miles 7–13, but is otherwise mostly flat. The marathon course will also be USAT&F certified and a Boston Marathon qualifying race.
Course Maps
Aid Stations
Aid stations will be every 1.5 miles.
Course Time Limit
The time limit for completing the marathon is six and a half hours. The course closes on a rolling schedule based on a 15:00 per mile pace (6 hours and 30 minutes total) for both the half and full marathons. The half marathon converges with the full marathon around mile 8, which allows half marathoners extra time to complete the race after that point.
Dogs, bicycles, and strollers are NOT allowed anywhere on the course!!!
Race Swag
Our runners consistently tell us that our swag is the best around. In 2019, all runners registered for the marathon and half marathon received a short sleeve technical fabric participant shirt and all race finishers also received a very sweet full zip finisher’s hoodie, as well as a gorgeous custom finisher’s medal! Yes, we're serious. Expect more of the same awesomeness in 2020.
DUE TO COVID-19 WE WILL NOT HAVE RELAY EVENTS THIS YEAR. Registered relay runners received a technical fabric participant shirt and those who run on race day will receive a custom finisher's medal.
DUE TO COVID-19 WE WILL NOT HAVE A POST-RACE PARTY THIS YEAR. All runners have the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishment at the post-race party immediately after crossing the finish line! You can expect a food and beer spread that beats any large marathon in Texas! All relay participants are eligible to participate in the post race party.
