The Whale Run has been cancelled for 2020 and 2021.
With mixed emotions, Soroptimist International of Fort Bragg has decided to cancel the 2021 Whale Run & Walk. We know it’s the right choice, but we’re disappointed, as we want nothing more than to bring our community together with this time-honored event.
While the vaccine rollout has gained momentum, and it’s looking promising to hold large outdoor public events this summer, we have concluded that we do not have the capacity to monitor social distancing protocols at an event that attracts up to 1000 people. Additionally, we are not in a position to risk losing non-refundable planning and logistics expenses in the event of a last-minute cancellation due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Since we were forced to cancel our 2020 in-person Whale Run & Walk, any registered runners/walkers who did not do the run virtually last year will automatically be eligible to complete the event virtually this July. If you live on the coast, we will have your t-shirts available for pick up on July 1st. If you live outside of our area, we will mail them to you.
We are not registering any new runners for 2021. We look forward to an in-person Whale Run & Walk on March 19, 2022

Regional microbreweries come to town, offering their best pilsners, stouts and ales for tasting at historic Eagle's Hall. Other events include arts & crafts fair, chowder tasting, art exhibits and guided whale walks at the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens and MacKerricher State Park. While in Fort Bragg, don't forget to plan a whale watching boat tour on the sea with Whale Watching Charter Boats out of Noyo Harbor. Also that weekend, the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse offers great activities for the whole family, including information on the migration of our gentle giants of the Pacific.
