(Ceremony to present armor kits to KPD and BCSO Officers in February 2019)
The mission of SHIELD616 is to:
1.) “equip every sworn officer in the Kearney Police Department, the Buffalo County Sherriff’s Office, and the UNK Police Department with armor gear to protect against threats in active shooter and/or crowd control situations”
2.) “provide prayer and encouragement support to these officers, through Unseen Backup (operated by Bobby Payne the local Chaplain)"
3.) “build and strengthen existing connections between the officers and the citizens they serve."
The money raised from the 2020 Shamrock Shuffle will be donated to purchase additional rifle rated vests as SHIELD616 pursues their goal of providing protection to every officer in the line of duty during active shooter situations. The advanced armor gear helps protect them as they put their very lives at risk to protect the citizens of Kearney and Buffalo County, students of UNK and businesses within the community.

A recent quote from a local KPD officer who has received and used the SHIELD616 equipment. Participant Letter
Thank you for participating in our 9th Annual Shamrock Shuffle! We are very grateful to have you here whether you are running, walking, or volunteering to help with this event. Thank you to all of our sponsors without whom this event would not be possible!
IMPORTANT RACE DAY REMINDERS
RACE START/FINISH: At YMCA 4500 6th Ave
Officers in Training at 10:30AM (Kids Obstacle Course Run)
10K Race Starts at 11:00AM
5K Race Starts at 11:10AM
PARKING: Limited parking available in the YMCA lot. Additional parking available at both the Presbyterian Church & EFree Church. Please DO NOT park in front of the YMCA along 6th and 7th Ave. as it is part of our course. Please carpool if at all possible!
SOCIAL MEDIA: We will have our very own snapchat filter. You will be able to use this filter between 7AM-1PM on Race Day along different portions of the race route and at the start/finish of the race. Hope you have fun making memories with friends and family. #ktownshamrockshuffle
ROUTE VOLUNTEERS: You will see volunteers throughout the route. Each group of volunteers will be wearing a light blue Shamrock Shuffle volunteer tee. If you need any medical attention let a volunteer know and they will get a member of our medical team to you as soon as possible.
WATER STOPS: Water and POWERADE will be available at two locations—along Country Club Lane and the trail, and 50th and 17th Street.
GATORS AND BIKES: We will have lead bikes and sag bikes for both races.
CHIP TIMING SYSTEM: This event is being officially timed by TimerGuys. Results will be available at the Finish Line or on the Kearney YMCA website. Results will also be emailed to you within 24 hours. Disposable chips are attached to the back of your race number...be careful not to bend.
AWARDS CEREMONY: We will give prizes to the top three female and male runners in each race. These will be handed out as soon as results are verified. This year all participants will receive a prize at the finish line. *We have some special “Luck of the Irish” prizes to be given to those racers with a shamrock stickers on your bibs!
Shamrock Shuffle Weather Policy: In the event of inclement weather refunds will not be given. Please stop by the YMCA by Friday, March 13th to pick up your shirt and medal. Thank you for supporting the 2020 Shamrock Shuffle/Shield 616.
