Healthy West Chicago 5K Run/Walk
Virtual Run
August 22 and August 23, 2020
For the past four years, Healthy West Chicago has been working to ensure that all residents of West Chicago have access to an optimal state of health and wellness. A collaborative of over 40 partners was brought to the table in 2016 and began addressing the gaps in physical and nutritional community needs. West Chicago has historically had a higher incidence of chronic diseases than national rates, and our children have the highest level of obesity in DuPage County. Our work is vital to improve these statistics and create a culture of health in West Chicago.
Looking towards the future we plan to continue our efforts by offering hands-on nutrition and disease prevention education programming, improve access to locally grown foods, and work to tackle systemic changes that will help ensure West Chicago residents have easy access to physical activity in the parks and on the streets and paths in West Chicago.Residents and employers alike will benefit from an increase in health in our community.
We do recognize that these are difficult times for all and the last few months have proven, if nothing else, how vital community efforts like Healthy West Chicago are for our residents. Our current crisis has also shown us how important health is, and that a community must have a strong foundational health to weather trying times.
Your contribution to Healthy West Chicago will allow us to grow our essential programs. Together, we can ensure that West Chicagoans are healthy and strong through life challenges and successes.
Your donation to Healthy West Chicago will allow us to grow our essential programs. $250 can provide a home garden to a food-insecure family. $1,000 can provide a six-week cooking class series for at-risk students and their families. $3,000 can provide an eight-week nutrition series of hands-on classes and grocery store tours to empower families to make healthy choices. Together, we can ensure that West Chicagoans are healthy and strong through life challenges and successes.
Our Mission
Mission and Vision
The mission of Healthy West Chicago is to ensure all residents of West Chicago have access to an optimal state of health and wellness. With our efforts we hope to increase healthy eating and physical activity in order to make West Chicago one of the healthiest communities in the region. Through engaging events, educational offerings and policy efforts, we aim to make the healthy choice, the easy choice.
Healthy West Chicago is both a partnership and an ideal. It is the belief that every single person has the ability to improve their own health. It is the desire to help all residents make healthy choices for themselves and their children.
Partners
As a partnership, Healthy West Chicago is a ground-breaking collaboration among community organizations committed to improving the health of West Chicagoans.
