Batavia United Way is disappointed to announce that its annual 5k/10k which raises funds for 17 area nonprofits will not be LIVE this year. After careful consideration and concern expressed by the City of Batavia and the Kane County Health Department, we are making the responsible decision to convert this event to a virtual model. While our Race Directors had incorporated countless safety protocols into the event, the recent release of Kane County’s rolling seven-day positivity average jumping another full percent to 9.1 indicates the need for action on our part. Kane County has experienced three straight single-days of positivity rates above 10% and we feel the message is clear. The Batavia United Way 5k/10k has drawn runners and walkers to our beautiful town from 30 surrounding zip codes for 6 years. In any other year, this is great news. This year, we need to be prudent and honor the request of our leaders to stay home, be safe and stay healthy.
Although we cannot have an in-person event this year, we are excited about the virtual race! The virtual run will take place between October 28 and October 31. Feel free to do your own route or use our certified route. We have already marked the trail with mile markers in orange and the map is on our website. All currently registered participants will be transitioned to the virtual race immediately. All participants that complete the 10K race and the 5K race will be put into a drawing for prizes and final race times will be posted. There will be no age group awards this year. Details below on how to upload your finish times.
Regular walk-in packet pick up (as well as packets for the Kids Fun Run) as well as drive-by packet pick up will be available. Walk-in packet pick up will allow for 3 individuals inside at a time. Drive-by packet pick up instructions: take Spring Street to River St. (turn left/going south) and pull up in front of Bar Evolution. A masked volunteer will be stationed outside of Bar Evolution and approach the passenger side of the car. Participants can then give their name to the volunteer and we will run their packet out to them, then they can pull away without getting out of the car. Bring your bib in during the virtual dates (October 28 - 31) and get 10% off your bill at Pal Joey’s or Bar Evolution!

Winners of both the costume contest and the runner’s raffle will be announced via our Facebook Live on Sunday, November 1. Details will be forthcoming.

Without supporters like you, we would not be able to provide assistance to 17 local agencies or run the in-house programs such as our Success-by-Six scholarship. We are looking forward to our virtual race this year and hoping for a return to our live race next year.

Below are details on running our race virtually!
- Run anytime between October 28 and October 31, 2020.
- Choose your own course or use our certified course shown on this page!
- Most importantly….have fun and enjoy the time outside!
All participants will receive goody bags and event shirt if registered by October 17 and/or registration has not hit the max of 300 participants! Virtual participants are not eligible for age group awards.
Follow these easy steps to prepare for your tracking:
TRACKING STEPS 1. Download the ASICS Runkeeper™ app to your phone and create an account or scroll down to log into an existing account Once you have completed your distance in the app, save your workout and it will automatically post to Race Roster results. (This step must be followed from your mobile device) |
VIEWING AND POSTING MANUAL RESULTS If you plan to record using another software or tracking device or post manually from what is recorded on your watch, simply head here and "Submit Virtual Result" between October 28 and October 31, 2020. |
FAQS:
- To record with tracking on the ASICS Runkeeper™ app, you will need to run or walk with your phone or with a connected wearable (see instructions below)
- You do not have to track with these technologies, it is optional!
