Raise money for Second Wind Fund

Suicide is currently the leading cause of death for youth in Colorado. Second Wind Fund aims to decrease the incidence of suicide in children and teenagers by removing the financial and social barriers to treatment. Second Wind Fund's program is delivered in 30 counties across Colorado, including: Denver, Jefferson, Mesa, Arapahoe and Douglas Counties. To date, Second Wind Fund's program has served over 6,400 youth. Your support directly helps us save young lives from suicide.

Your Impact

Your support helps to save lives. Second Wind Fund is capable of saving a young life from suicide for every $1,000 received:

12 therapy sessions at $70 a session = $840
3 Suicidal Ideation Questionnaires (SIQs) = $30
Therapist travel reimbursement = $120
Minimal administrative costs = $10

Total = $1,000

Second Wind Fund's Story

The belief that the tragedy of a young person choosing to take their own life can be prevented was the prime motivator for the founders of Second Wind Fund, back in 2002. That school year, four students at a local Jefferson County High School died by suicide in a nine-month time frame.

In response to these four suicides, members of a local faith community, organized a small community Walk/Run event to show solidarity with the school. This event raised a modest amount of money that was used to provide direct support to other young people who were struggling at the school. Soon after, Second Wind Fund was founded with a simple mission: to decrease the incidence of suicide in children and youth by removing the financial and social barriers to treatment.

Eighteen years since its inception, Second Wind Fund is now serving 30 counties across Colorado and has provided life-saving services to over 6,400 youth.

Our Mission

The mission of Second Wind Fund is to decrease the incidence of suicide in children and youth by removing the financial and social barriers to treatment.

Second Wind Fund believes that every child and teen at risk for suicide should have access to the mental health treatment they need. Our organization matches youth, 19 years and younger and at risk for suicide, with licensed therapists in their community. If a financial or social barrier to treatment is present, Second Wind Fund pays for up to 12 sessions of therapy from one of our over 200 specialized network providers—each licensed, available for a first treatment appointment within one week, and highly experienced with this population.
