AZALEA CLASSIC 2020

Covid-19 and the Azalea Classic: The UPES PTA and school administration are carefully monitoring this developing situation.

At this time, the 19th Annual Azalea Classic is still scheduled for SATURDAY MAY 2, 2020. We will message any registered participants if we need to delay or cancel this beloved charity event. Please note, WE CANNOT ISSUE REFUNDS for sponsorships or race registration fees. However, if the event is delayed or canceled, we will do our best to get you your race t-shirt, and please know that all proceeds from this event directly benefit the students of UPES, who greatly appreciate your support in this difficult time.

Join the University Park, MD community for a morning of family-friendly fun and fitness. The Azalea Classic has a race for everyone! Choose from our USATF certified 5K, our 1 Mile Challenge or our 1K Family Fun Run. All races take place on quiet, azalea-lined streets in University Park. This popular event brings together people from across the region, various schools and all ages.

The event is organized by the University Park Elementary School PTA and all proceeds benefit programs at the school. Our school is diverse and the needs are many; every year the UPES PTA is called on to purchase classroom supplies, printer paper, art materials, musical instruments, library books and much more. In addition, we fund field trips, teacher training and educational events. In doing so, we hope to level the educational playing field and give all students a more equal opportunity to learn.

The Azalea Classic is a notoriously hilly course -- this is not a "flat and fast" course for setting a new personal best time, but it's great spring training for a season of racing, and a beautiful course to run.
