Safety First! Following CDC Guidelines
The safety of our participants, volunteers and staff is our number one priority. We will be adhering to CDC Guidelines the day of our event. Please respect all participating by following these steps on race morning:
- Participants who are feeling ill, or have been in contact with someone unrecovered from Covid-19 should stay home
- Persons from high risk groups for Covid-19 should consult their physician before participating
- Participants should not engage in traditional forms of physical contact - handshakes, high-fives, hugs, partner stretching, etc.
- No Spitting! Participants should bring their own tissues/hand towels for spitting, blowing nose, sweat, etc.
- No Sharing! Participants should not share personal items such as water bottles, energy drinks, towels.
- All visitors (racers, volunteers and spectators) will be temperature scanned with a touchless thermometer upon arrival. Temperatures will not be recorded.
- FACE MASKS! All run/walk participants must wear face masks when not on the race course. Volunteers and spectators will also wear face coverings.
- Maintain social distancing of at least 6' at all times.
- Do not linger by registration, water/food tables, sidewalks, restrooms - allowing participants access to these areas without congestion.
- Water Station on Course - self serve. Filled water cups will be spread out on numerous tables at two locations on 5K course allowing participants to grab water. Volunteers will not hand out water.
- Finish line/Water - please keep moving through finish area/water to allow all participants to go through without congestion
- Hand Sanitizing Stations. There will be numerous hand sanitizing stations throughout the site. Please use them!
- Participants may be subject to temperature checks.
- FACE MASKS! (worth repeating)
Remember! If you are feeling ill, please stay home.
Any participant whose actions do not meet the above expectations, and/or are creating a risk for themselves or others will be asked to leave the site immediately.

The 5K course will start behind the concession stand on the road behind the Fire Station. The 1-mile walk will also start behind the concession stand but on the park path.
What do you receive?
T-SHIRT
5K and 1-Mile registrants will receive a short-sleeve technical T-shirt. Register by Aug. 7, 2020 to guarantee a T-shirt in your preferred size.
MEDALS & AWARDS
All participants will receive a finisher's medal. Awards given to the overall top 3 male and female finishers in 5K. Age category awards for the top 3 male and female finishers: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+. No awards given for 1-Mile.
PICNIC IN THE PARK
Every registered participant will get to enjoy a “Picnic in the Park” complete with a boxed BBQ lunch.
Teams/Family
Groups of 4 or more can create a TEAM and receive a discount on registration! Members of a team can participate in any distance they choose. If you are a family of 4 or more, create a team and receive the discount! Discount of $5 per registrant will take place during checkout. Teams must register by Aug. 27.
CREATE A TEAM: The person creating the team will first register themselves by picking the race distance of their choice and then under the TEAM section of the registration form, they will choose to "create the team", pick a team name, create a password and include themselves on the team.
JOIN A TEAM: Team members select the race distance they want to participate in and then in the TEAM section of the registration page, pick "choose to be added to a team" and pick from the team names in a drop down menu.
Course Details
5K RUN/WALK
The 5K course will be chip timed and is for runners and walkers. Participants must keep at least a 20-minute pace. The course starts at McCollum Park, continues on neighborhood streets and finishes at McCollum Park. Strollers and dogs are permitted on the 5K course. Dogs must be leashed and kept close to you at all times. Please be mindful of runners around you.
1-MILE WALK
The 1-Mile Walk will not be chip timed and is for WALKERS ONLY. The walk course will take place on the path that loops around McCollum Park. Strollers and dogs are permitted on the 1-Mile course. Dogs must be leashed and kept close to you at all times. Please be mindful of others around you.
Why Participate?
The BBQ Bolt supports Downers Grove Park District's inclusion services, through SEASPAR, for people with disabilities who want to participate in a park district program or activity.

Packet Pick Up
Drive-Thru Packet Pickup:
· Friday, Aug. 28 from 3-7 pm
· Downers Grove Recreation Center located at 4500 Belmont Road, Downers Grove
· Drive-thru will occur in the circle drive at the entrance of the facility
· In the case of inclement weather, packet pickup will be moved inside the facility
You may also pick up your race packet on race morning starting at 6:30 AM at McCollum Park.
NOTE: There will be no race day registration
Start Line
We will be utilizing a staggered start line.
Groups of 40-50 people will start together, while maintaining distance at the start line. Starting corrals will be set up to keep each group separate and allow for a continuing wave start. Staff will be on hand to direct participants to starting corrals.
Virtual Race Option

Want to participate in the BBQ Bolt, but want to do it on your own time at your own pace? Register for our virtual options! Choose to participate in the 5K or 1M course and run or walk from Aug. 22 to 28.
Register by Aug. 27: $30 per racer
Virtual Racers Receive:*

· Virtual goodie bag
*Virtual racers will not receive the BBQ meal or qualify for finisher awards.

For those who want to track and share their run/walk experience, instructions for submitting your time are below and will be sent to registered virtual participants prior to Aug. 22. Share your selfies with us by emailing events@dgparks.org.

Download the ASICS Runkeeper™ app to your phone and create an account or scroll down to log into an existing account Once you have completed your 5k distance in the app, save your workout and it will automatically post to Race Roster results. (This step must be followed from your mobile device) |
VIEWING AND POSTING MANUAL RESULTS If you plan to record using another software or tracking device or post manually from what is recorded on your watch, simply head here and "Submit Virtual Result" between August 22 and August 28, 2020. |
