There are a lot of people going through physical, financial and emotional challenges as a result of the recent coronavirus outbreak and it is absolutely heartbreaking. Now is an opportunity for us to unite and support those who are the most vulnerable as a result of this crisis.
With numerous events being canceled and a number of establishments being closed, it is important for us to look after our most vulnerable members of the society, who unfortunately may not get enough to eat or may not be able to get the help they need. As a community, we have suffered an enormous economic blow and the amount of time recovery will take is still uncertain.
Therefore, the purpose of this Virtual 5k and 10k is to raise funds for the Mustard Seed Food Bank and the Victoria Hospitals Foundation. All net proceeds from this event will be distributed between the two chosen non-profit organizations.
The Mustard Seed is a non-profit fighting hunger and restoring faith to hurting souls in Greater Victoria.
The Victoria Hospitals foundation makes a huge difference in the lives of patients at our hospitals in order to provide the best possible care for the patients.
A Virtual Race is a race that you can run, walk or jog at any time anywhere before the event deadline, which is Sept 30, 2020. At this time, it is recommended that you do it by yourself, on the quiet trails or on the road, in your backyard or on the treadmill.
You get to run your own race, at your own pace, and time it yourself. Then, submit your Garmin, Strava or another running app results. As long as you submit your 5k or 10k time between the time that you signed up for the race and Sept 30, 2020, you are entered.
In the event that this goes bigger than originally anticipated, a special fund will be set up to help to provide direct financial help to families who need it most (such as laid off low-income single mothers facing homelessness).
Don't forget to check out the event store, where some products from Dream Strides (Run4Life's retail partner) are available. 50% of the profits from the sale of items in the store will also be donated to the charities.
You can also sign up as a PROMOTER and RaceRoster will pay you $3 per each registrant that you refer who signs up. This is a great opportunity to make a few extra bucks while contributing to the well-being of our community.

An entry to potentially win one of the draw prizes. You earn draw prize entries by sharing the event on your social media, by posting selfies of yourself after you complete the event with the hashtag #run4lifeyyj. Creative submissions will also receive bonus draw prize entries.
There will be cash prizes for the top 3 referrers who sign up as promoters.
Registration is priced low in order to foster inclusion and to allow more people to be a part of the Run4Life Community.
