Chimpathon 5K/10K Race Announcement
Due to COVID-19 the 2020 Chimpathon has been converted to a virtual race.
The 2020 Save the Chimps Chimpathon 5K/10K has been converted to a virtual race due to COVID-19.
As Florida continues to be severely impacted by this pandemic, we are taking appropriate measures to make sure Save the Chimps remains safe, including keeping the sanctuary closed to all public events for the time being.
Transitioning this year’s Chimpathon to a virtual event is not the decision we wanted to make but the decision we had to make to keep our participants, staff and most importantly our chimpanzee residents safe, healthy and happy. All currently registered participants will automatically be transferred into the virtual race and no further action is required by you. Due to the nature of this event and the pre-planning that goes into a major race such as the Chimpathon 5K/10K, there will be no refunds issued as stated in the waiver that was signed during registration.
Virtual race packets will be mailed to all participants beginning on November 16th, 2020. Participants will also be receiving emails with instructions on how to complete your virtual race and submit your results. You will have until November 15th to complete your virtual race and submit your results; all participants will receive their race packet regardless if their results have been submitted or not.
This is not the outcome for Chimpathon we were hoping for, but we need to take every step necessary to help stop the spread of COVID-19. We feel that we have a social responsibility to everyone in our community and our chimpanzee residents to do whatever we can to help stop the spread of this virus.
While we have to run apart virtually this year because of COVID-19, we see this event as an opportunity to show our strength during a challenging time. We will still be able to collectively show our support for Save the Chimps, and we are excited for people near and far to have the chance to participate.
Over 2,400 participants have joined us over the last five years, raising over $200,000 to benefit the retired chimpanzees residing at Save the Chimps. Let's make this year even better!
