Join me on April 14th and either walk 1.14 miles or run 4.14 miles
in memory of Cassie Ascher
"Be not simply good, be good for something" ― Henry David Thoreau
I have always wanted to create an event to honor the memory of my Aunt Cassie. Due to many of Project Purple's races and events being cancelled because of COVID19 there seemed no better time to create a "virtual" event in her memory than now, a time when so many battling pancreatic cancer need our support. This remarkable woman beat breast cancer twice and fought as long and hard as she could against pancreatic cancer. Cassie is forever my why and the person that inspired me to lace up my shoes and run for those who can't. I continue to fight on her behalf and behalf of so many others. This event is yet another way I fulfill my promise to her to never forget her, and never let he become "just a picture on the wall".
During these chaotic times of COVID19 I find that the best way in which I can help myself is to help others. I lost Cassie to pancreatic cancer in June of 2009 just 4 months after diagnosis. The feelings of powerlessness I had while she fought are eerily reminiscent of how I feel now. I cannot help but think of all of those battling pancreatic cancer during such scary times. I cannot fathom the emotional and financial stress that they and their families are faced with knowing that their loved one is in the high risk demographic.
Please join me on her birthday, Tuesday, April 14th (or any day that fits into your schedule) and walk and/or run in her memory and on behalf of everyone out there currently fighting this insidious cancer during such difficult times. Your $14 registration goes to Project Purple, an organization that embodies the meaning of the above quote from Thoreau. Project Purple is the nations leading provider of patient financial aid, and they need our help now more than ever.
On April 14th make your movement matter for Cassie, make it matter for all those fighting, and make it matter for an organization striving to have a world without pancreatic cancer.
I encourage you to share your pictures of your Cassie's Crusade walk or run on social media using the hashtags #cassiescrusade and #projectpurple - be sure to tag me (IG handle @keekeeontherun) and Project Purple (IG handle @projectpurple) in your photos!
Everyone that registers for this event will be entered in a drawing to win a $50 gift card to a place of their choosing.
Thank you for all the love and support,
Keelin
