"If you're going to face a challenge, it has to be a real challenge." - lazarus lake
Starting June 1st...can you average 56k/week for 99 days, from anywhere in the world!? That's what you have to do to complete it on time. Doesn't sound too bad...only 8k/day, right!?
Some folks will really get into this and finish much sooner, but the whole idea is to give everyone a great project to work on and a pretty respectable challenge. For some of you, this will be a real challenge, but that's the point. We want you to get out there and try something that you may actually fail at.
*We'll have a Strava group for everyone to join (not mandatory!). In the group we can see how everyone is doing and provide some friendly encouragement.
*Having a Strava account is NOT MANDATORY. Strava data will be requested if someone, or some team, is destroying everyone out of the blue :)
*There will be an Interactive map that will show your location on the route relative to everyone else! Link will be provided before June 1st.
*Data entry will be as easy as clicking on the website link (you'll receive this in a few weeks), entering the date of your run & adding your distance. That's it! Your marker on the map will automatically move! You will also have the option to sync your Strava account with our website so you won't have to enter data manually.
*Please note that taking your dog for a 'poop walk' for 482 metres should not be counted towards your total. The only activities that will count are ones where you actually suit up for an intended walk/hike/run and are a minimum of 2kms. Activities less than 2kms will not change your location. Make sense?
*Please join the Strava club here once you have registered (not mandatory!). Only those that are registered get in: https://www.strava.com/clubs/rans The group is only there to 'socialize' with everyone and to show others where they're actually doing their runs in the real world.
*Yes, if you are taking part in another virtual run, your miles will count for this one as well.
*RANS t-shirts and hats will be optional to purchase, along with a postage fee if you need it mailed.
*2 and 3 person "RELAY" option is now available! 2 or 3 people can now join forces to make their way across NS virtually! NOTE that when registering a relay team, you only have to add the name of "team member #2" (and/or #3) and pay a total of $60/$90 for the team. Do not fill out all the info and then select "add registrant". This will double your entry fee. Within a day or so of registering a relay team, I will manually add your team members so they show up on the start list (no other info is needed -- the team captain is signing the waiver for their teammates).
*If you are manually adding data and are blowing everyone out of the water (out of the blue), we can request proof that you are actually doing the distances you say you are. Yes, this is done on the donor system, so please play fair.
*Treadmills are also fair game to use.
*A donation will be made to a local charity.
*Salomon prizing will be available! 1st place solo & 2/3 person relay team prize, plus draw prizes will be available!
*Shirts and hats will be available for pickup/mailing anytime after July 1st, 2020.
More info will be posted here as we have it!
