On May 14, 1804, Lewis & Clark and their Corps of Discovery set sail from St. Louis to travel the Missouri River and explore the west, setting the stage for westward expansion. Run the Missouri is a virtual running and walking challenge that follows their journey across the state of Missouri, traveling along the Missouri River from St. Louis to Kansas City. You'll virtually traverse 371 miles of the Lewis & Clark National Historic Driving Route, which runs along the north bank of the river. To commemorate your personal expedition, you'll receive by mail your choice of a soft cotton tee or a technical singlet - and a custom medal!
Your goal is to log any miles you travel on foot and try to cover all 371 miles before the end of October. Every time you log a journey into the Run the Missouri online system, you will see your location along the virtual course (complete with street view images!) and your position on the mileage leaderboard. You don't have to be a tech wizard to participate; you'll receive instructions on how to log your miles and view your progress on the web or via the mobile app.

FAQs
When does this challenge take place?
Run the Missouri officially kicked off on June 1st and you have until October 31st to complete the 371 miles, but you can register and join anytime in June or July and still get your shirt and take part in the challenge.
Can I join the challenge late?
Yes! Registration is open through July. Here are the miles per week needed if you join at the following times:
June 15th - ~19 miles per week
June 22nd - ~20 miles per week
June 29th - ~21miles per week
July 6th - ~22 miles per week
July 13th -~23 miles per week
July 20th - ~24 miles per week
July 27th - ~25 miles per week
How does it work?
Log any miles you travel on foot (running, walking, hiking, etc) starting June 1st and try and cover 371 miles before October 31st. Every time you log a run, you'll be able to see where you would be along the virtual race course, including the ability to load the street view of your current location along the route, as well as a leaderboard so you can see your friends and rivals progress each day. All registrants will receive detailed instructions on how to log their miles and where to view the map with progress. There will even be a mobile app!
How many miles are needed per day to achieve this?
The course is 371 miles long over 152 days, which averages 2.44 miles per day, or approximately 17 miles per week.
How do I log my miles?
We are partnering with a program called My Virtual Mission, where you can either manually enter your mileage, or link to accounts like Strava, Fitbit, MapMyRun, etc to automatically sync with the challenge. All registered participants will get an email with instructions on how to join the site, which will go out the week before the challenge begins on June 1st.
When will I receive my shirt?
We will order/ship shirts on a weekly basis, so you should receive your shirt within 10-14 days of your registration date. If more than 2 weeks have passed and you have not received your shirt, please email jake@fleetfeetstlouis.com.
Is there swag/awards?
All registrants will have their choice of a soft cotton tee or a tech singlet. All finishers will receive a custom finisher's medal commemorating your accomplishment. During registration, you can either choose to pick your medal up at a Fleet Feet St. Louis location, or pay $5 to have it shipped to you. We will start distributing medals in August to those who finish the challenge before then, and then each week we'll contact all finishers from the prior week to coordinate their medal pickup (we will also ship medals weekly). Bragging rights and respect will go to those who finish it the fastest.
