My Five Saves Lives

We have been supporting AEP since 2007 when I met Mama Mario on the Radnor Trail. Julie-Anne has taken the organization to another level and we're here to help keep it going. The annual fundraiser had to be canceled due to Covid 19. Please join us is keeping AEP afloat and able to do their work educating young men and women o Kafue, Zambia. I went to Zambia in 2011 to see first hand the amazing group of young people thirsting for knowledge and the vast number of children who are fed daily. For some, it was their only meal.

Description

The African Education Program (AEP) provides educational and leadership development opportunities to hundreds of girls and boys in Zambia to break the cycle of poverty in their communities. AEP has changed the lives of thousands of young Zambians who otherwise would not have continued their education through its high school and college scholarship program and after-school learning center in Kafue.

Before mid-March, AEP welcomed nearly 400 girls and boys on a daily basis at the after-school learning center. This all changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic as the center had to close. The AEP Team quickly transitioned to COVID-19 response and relief work. Three week's worth of food was distributed to 278 families. The AEP team actively tracks the situation on the ground to gauge when another distribution will be most beneficial. Health safety information sharing has been a priority through weekly health check-ins via phone with the families. Over 500 reusable masks were made by AEP's Threads of Hope, an income generating tailoring atelier run by a program alumnus, and were distributed to families. Nearly 2,000 family members are now benefiting from these services. The 2020 FunRacer Virtual 5K will ensure that the AEP Team can continue to do everything possible to keep our girls, boys, and their families safe during the uncertain times. Click here to learn more.
