Why Do The FunRacer?

The COVID-19 pandemic jeopardizes the African Education Program (AEP's) longevity and puts at risk the organization's 15 years of impactful educational programs. AEP has provided the only after-school programs, free hot meals, and high school and college scholarships for thousands of youth in Kafue, Zambia. It has changed the lives of girls and boys who would otherwise not even have had a chance to attend high school. In response to COVID-19, AEP is distributing food to its families, operating remote tutoring, conducting weekly health check-ins with families, and making and distributing reusable masks. But with in-person fundraisers cancelled and funding sources reduced, AEP's work and the futures of so many Zambian youth are at risk.

FunRacer Virtual 5K Awards

Fun is the name of the game for the AEP FunRacer! Awards will be based on enthusiasm and fun, not race times. 5K Your Way means you can run, walk, dance, skip or jump the race distance at your own pace and at a time and location of your choosing. You choose your own race day and your own starting line, whether it is a treadmill, a park, your living room, or your neighborhood street. You can do your 5K all at once or over the course of "Race Week."

So do not forget to take photos or video and submit to FunRacer@aeprogram.org or on AEP's Facebook event page using the hashtag #AEPFunRacer.

Every participant based in the U.S. who reaches the $250.00 fundraising level will receive a custom face mask created out of African chitenge fabric. Every participant who reaches the $500.00 fundraising level will receive a custom AEP FunRacer t-shirt. And, every participant who reaches the $1,000.00 fundraising level will receive a custom AEP grocery tote.

AEP will attempt to have in-person pickup for Philadelphia-area residents when it is safe to do so. For non-local residents and those unable to make an in-person pickup, we will mail to the address provided during the registration process.
