Virtual Vertical Challenge

Well COVID-19 is cancelling races left, right and centre. But it doesn't mean we can't have an awesome virtual event that makes the vert feel very real!

We bring you, the Virtual Vertical Challenge. Starting on Saturday September 12th, 2020 at 7:00am PDT until September 20th at 7:00pm PDT, you will have to run, walk, hike as much vertical gain as possible. Partial proceeds will go to support the South Vancouver Island Nature Trails Society.

We have extended the original challenge to start tomorrow at 7am Pacific time until Sunday, September 20th at 7pm Pacific time. What this means is you have all this weekend, all this week and all next weekend to complete the challenge.

The same rule applies for the 12 hour period. You must complete as much climbing/gain/ascending in a 12 hour period as possible. However, you now can do any 12 hour period within the next week.

Want to do a couple attempts? Yep, you can do that too. We'll only count your best 12 hour period though!

How we will score the event:

1) Most Vertical Gain in the 12 hour period

2) Most Vertical Gain and Distance covered in the 12 hour period

3) Best Costume worn for the 12 hour period

4) Most photo/videos posted to social media in the 12 hour period. Make sure to tag us on instagram (@coastline.endurance) and Facebook (Coastline Endurance Running) and use hashtag #vertsnotreal

We only have two rules:

1) You must cover all distance/gain under your own power. Poles are allowed but taking a car or bike from the summit down to the bottom is not. Yes you can drive/bike to another location (see the next rule), but the climbing and descending has to be under your own strength.

2) You must ascent at least 3 different “peaks” during the 12 hour period. Why? because we want things to be interesting and not just have participants run laps up and down certain peaks. What counts as a peak? A mountain top, highway overpass, top of a building, pretty much anything!

Prizing? Oh yes, we'll have prizing. We'll have complimentary entries to Finlayson Arm 28k, 50k, 100k and the Double for 2021, prizing from Frontrunners Victoria, and others!
