Run / Walk, or Ride "The Crossing" up to 814 miles or Ride "The Loop" up to 3,612 miles from now through April 30th 2021. Along the way, you will unlock achievement awards based on completing 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and / or the full distance. This includes one shirt or cycling jersey commemorating your farthest milestone!
Interested in shorter distances? Check out our Detours of Texas option which will host up to 10 "Detours" that highlight hidden gems of Texas through shorter virtual routes.
This is a virtual mile logging challenge that you can conquer from anywhere in the world. Don't worry, we won't make you actually ride across the state (yet)! We're also thrilled to provide participants with progress maps, mileage logs and Strava integration in addition to traditional manual mileage entry.
The Texas Distance Challenge celebrates the great State of Texas and along the way you will explore the vastness and diversity of its offerings.
The Texas Distance Challenge is a Texas-owned event that benefits Texas businesses such as our design partners Kong Screen Printing. In addition, a portion of every registration will support the Texas Parks & Wildlife Foundation for the benefit of the Texas State Parks Ambassador Program.
Participant Perks
- Every participant will receive a Texas Distance Challenge sticker, patch, bib number, and high-quality bandana created by a Texas designer.
- Participants of Run the Crossing, Ride the Crossing and Ride the Loop will receive stackable sticker awards as they reach each distance milestone along the way.
- Participants of Run the Crossing and Ride the Crossing are eligible to unlock one (1) tiered shirt reward commemorating their farthest milestone...as they progress through our great State in the hunt of the coveted Gold Finisher Shirt. As you progress you'll "level up" the color of your shirt. Happy with your progress? Tap out, and we'll send you your Finisher Shirt showcasing your further milestone!
- Participants of Ride the Loop have the opportunity to earn a Texas Distance Challenge Cycling Jersey if you're able to make your way around the entire perimeter during the allotted time! Don't think you'll make it? It's okay! Reach any of the milestones along the way and earn a milestone specific shirt!
- Participants of Detours of Texas will virtually explore the hidden gems of the State of Texas via monthly challenges! These challenges will come with information about unique creators & experiences in Texas and be commemorated with a Detour-specific keepsake. Knock out all the challenges and earn the Detours of Texas Finisher Shirt!
- We've partnered with local print & design experts, Kong! This great partnership not only guarantees one of a kind participant designs but also Limited Edition Merchandise releases! Get ready for some downright snazzy shirts, caps, pins & the odd Texas-inspired apparel!

Detours of Texas Closed

Run or Walk our Detours of Texas which will highlight different areas in the great State of Texas. Each Detour will be between a 5K and 10K. There will be a minimum of 10 and as you complete each, you will receive an award. Complete all 10 and you will receive a special Detours of Texas finisher's shirt! Detours will be released monthly and participants will be allowed to retroactively complete any they may have missed along the way. If you skip a month or register after the challenge begins, you can always go back and catch up.
