2020 is a year we will never forget. Even if we would like to. We have been pretty much totally shut down since the beginning of March and for sure through October. Will we start up our in-person races again in November? Or at least December? We hope so, and we continue to plan for them, get our applications submitted, etc., but there is no telling for sure at this point. The only certain thing we know is that we WILL be back in action with in-person events just as soon as we are allowed.
In the meanwhile, this got us thinking...we wish we had a time machine (maybe one made out of a Delorean?) to go back in time and actually have those events we missed. And then, as long as we're time traveling, it would be pretty cool to go forward a bit and do the races lined up for the rest of the year, too.
So, here we are! We have taken all the races that have not happened (starting in March) and all the races still to happen this year (which are still scheduled to happen) and put together THREE separate virtual challenges: Challenge 1 (Way Back), Challenge 2 (Almost Present) and Challenge 3 (Into the Future!). Each challenge is a little over 100 miles long:
Challenge 1 = 110.1 miles (6 races)
Challenge 2 = 110.93 miles (8 races)
Challenge 3 = 118.92 (9 races)
Important: This does NOT mean the events through to the end of the year are cancelled. If there is any possible way to hold those, they will all still happen. This also doesn't mean there won't be any other virtual-type events for those future races. That also could happen. This is just our first virtual-challenge in tribute to the mess that has been 2020 so far for Brazen Racing events!
Brazen to the Future participants will log miles for each race and a map will show their progress on the course at each event. Those able to run/walk the actual courses are welcome to do so, but those running wherever they can will also be able to count their miles just the same. And for all those who want to participate with (or even partially with) an alternative form of exercise (Peloton riding, cycling, rowing, stand-up paddle-boarding, etc.), we will have that option and results will be listed for separately for run/walk and multi-sport.
Those wishing to form a team and see their cumulative team mileage in the results will be able to do that, too. We don't have full functionality for relay teams quite yet, but if you want to team up and cover mileage relay-style, feel free to sign up your members and e-mail us and then we can set the team leader up to log mileage for the whole team as it is done.
And those who enjoy connecting and sharing their runs, and having fun with other Brazen runners, will be able to do exactly that in the Be Bold Be Brazen Facebook page.
Finally, to commemorate (or commiserate) this year, we've put together a few special (Brazen-style) items for those who participate:
Participants of Challenge 1 will receive the official 2020 Brazen to the Future Commemorative Coaster.
Participants of Challenge 2 will receive a custom 2020 hat, (BOCO brand), available only for virtual challenge participants.
Participants of Challenge 3 will receive a 2020 Brazen hoodie (zip-up or pullover).
The items above will be mailed to runners in late December/early January (updates will be sent to alert participants when they are on the way).
All challenges are separate events to register for. You can sign up for all three at once (and get a small discount) or just choose any one or two.
Registration will remain open until approximately November 1st. Runners can begin logging their miles starting on October 21st. There is no time limit for finishing the challenges.
