WELCOME TO THE RUN FOR THE SHORE VIRTUAL RACE!
Just when you may have written of the rest of your running goals for 2020 say hold on! There is a new virtual opportunity for you to join us in making a huge difference in our community!
Our Virtual Run For The Shore 165K, 100k, 50k & 15k has a goal of raising $10,000 for the North Shore Women’s Centre. Located in North Vancouver, BC, the North Shore Women’s Centre is dedicated to improving the social, economic, legal and political status of women, and encourages and supports self-empowerment by acting as a resource and a catalyst for change, from feminist perspectives. We aim to provide women with access to resources and assist them with life choices, actively address violence against women at all levels of the community, challenge sexism and discrimination in the community, and work towards the elimination of the feminization of poverty. The NSWC welcomes women and gender diverse individuals, including those who identify as trans, Two-Spirit, and/or non-binary.
Up to $5,000 in proceeds will be matched by our generous donors.
RACE INFORMATION
How This Race Works
The Run For The Shore has been created to encourage virtual running and to support one of RLAG’S very own Leader Ambassadors in her journey to completing 100K while raising funds and awareness for an important local Women’s Centre.
This is a virtual race in partnership with the RunGo App. If you live locally in the Lower Mainland of BC you are welcome to head out on the virtual routes that have been created. Don’t live in North Vancouver, or unable to travel? No problem, you can race as a virtual runner. No matter where you live, you can run along the virtual route with turn-by-turn instructions and descriptions of the beautiful and challenging routes provided by RunGo.
Virtual Race:
You can choose the distance of your choice: 100K, 50K, 15K, or the Triple for a combined distance of 165K! No matter the distance, you can run wherever you live, over as many runs as you choose!
All racers receive a handmade finisher’s medal, a race swag bag, racers bib, and some amazing deals with our race sponsors! All race entries also include a donation to the NSWC. All registered Triple Runners (165K) receive a special finishers t-shirt that is unique to that distance!
Once registered, your race package is mailed to you, and should arrive before September 4, 2020. This gives you the opportunity to help us raise money and awareness, run where you live (maybe create a group run with friends?!), and we can all run together around the world on the same week!
Important: Registration for our Virtual Runners closes August 28, 2020 so that we have time to mail your package to you before race day.
Course Information
Start and Finish Line: Wherever you live OR
Ambleside Beach Park – Argyle Ave, West Vancouver, BC V7V 1A4
This is a tracked virtual race with routes for us to follow, provided by the RunGo App. You will be following verbal turn-by-turn instructions for each distance. As a virtual runner this gives you the opportunity to run along no matter where you are!
If you are running locally in Vancouver, all distances will have the option to start and end at Ambleside Beach. With lots of local shops and restaurants nearby, this is the perfect daytime venue for your friends and family to wait to see you crush your goals! Once complete, be sure to dip your toes on the waters edge – this is of course, a Run for the Shore! Click here for rules and restrictions at Ambleside during Covid-19.
You can also sign up your fur pup to race with you!
You can register your dog for this event, and they will also receive a finishers dog tag! It will be sent in the mail with your race package!
We ask that you run on trails/parks that allow dogs, and we also ask that you respect all park rules.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
– This Virtual Race is a fundraiser for the North Shore Women’s Centre. All of the proceeds are being donated to the centre.
- Since 1973, the North Shore Women’s Centre (NSWC) has lobbied around such issues as accessible and affordable childcare and housing, pensions and seniors’ benefits, and pay equity. Additionally, the NSWC has worked towards creating a safe place for women through their violence prevention and support resources, including SAGE House – an off-site resource for women fleeing violence in relationships.
- Among their many programs, women have access to health and wellness programs, support groups, family law clinics, and basic computer skill training. For the younger generation, there is the annual Girls Empowerment Camp and Flip the Script – the only program proven to reduce the risk of sexual assault for young women in Canada.
- I am pleased to announce that Saved by the Trail has teamed up with RunGo, and Run Like a Girl to create a fun, and challenging, race on the North Shore Mountains in support of this fantastic cause! All proceeds will be donated to the North Shore Women’s Centre and up to $5,000 will be matched by Jindra Casperson and Laurent Vallieres of XL Flooring. The race fee includes a bib number and a finishers medal that will be mailed to you prior to the race.
Our routes will be filled with technical climbs, secret viewpoints, and take you through some of North Vancouver’s most beautiful trails. All distances are designed to take you on an adventure and include as much of the North Shore Scenery as possible! Whether you are running locally, or trying the distance near your home virtually, you can be sure that your run will be filled with beauty and challenge!
