It's a challenge to stay motivated and keep your training going in the summer.
If you’re new to the sport, the process is new and exciting. If you aren’t new, then training can become boring. Let’s face it, running and/or walking is something we don’t think about too much, because we do it every day. But, when you stop to think about how you do it, you can improve your form, stay positive, and reap the health benefits of summer training. So we invite you to run and/or walk very differently for the next six weeks.
Join us for the
It’s running. It’s walking. It's total silliness.
It’s embracing the moment and the challenge of the week.
WHAT IS THE SILLY SUMMER CHALLENGE?
A 6-week virtual running and/or walking endurance event that pits participants from around the country in a head-to-head competition for made up points, obscure prizes, and fleeting social media glory. Each week, participants will put their silliness and physical ability to the test as they compete in nutty challenges while running and/or walking. Each week there will be a new challenge announced on social media and the Little Rock Marathon website. Challenges are secret until the weekend before.
HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:
Register for the challenge! The cost is $25 (includes shipping) and we'll send out your swag. If you just want the swag and don't want to do the challenge, that's cool – thank you. If you want to do the challenge, go to step 2.
Your Time – Your Place! Run or walk (or a combination of both) at any time or location the suggested mileage while undertaking that week’s challenge. The challenge runs from July 13 – August 23, 2020.
Prove Yourself. We know you train every day. So please submit your best time for the week into our Virtual Results by Sunday at 10 p.m. CST. Your distance has to be at least as long as that week’s recommended distance, but it's ok if it's longer.
Claim Your Glory! Post proof (your social media of course) that you completed that week’s challenge. To be eligible for all the made up points, social media glory, and fame, we need it by Sunday at 10 p.m. CST too. Please use #SillySummerChallenge or #LRMarathon. |
AWARDS/PRIZES
Points are awarded arbitrarily and serve no practical purpose in determining the winner. Prizes are awarded in much the same manner as points. Fame is fleeting. Social media glory wins. The judges’ decision is final, but the photo or video with the most likes wins. Unless of course the rules are violated. Please see rules for other terms and stuff you probably won’t get around to reading.
The ultimate winner of the Silly Summer Challenge is each participant.
BUT, there could be an amazing discount to other Little Rock Marathon events, a bedazzled widget, or a belt that rivals any professional wresting belt.

RULES
The Silly Summer Challenge obeys the rules set forth by the Random Silly Challenge World Championships in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, Wales (Yes. A small village in Wales that calls itself by a name with more letters than residents. And, we're 65% sure we didn't spell it wrong):
- Participant safety is the responsibility of the participant. This is really the only rule.
- Participants must follow @LRMarathon on Facebook to be eligible to win. (ok this is a rule too).
- Participants must complete the challenge without the aid of a professional silly person.
- Photos must clear and show the participant involved in the challenge (it can’t be your spouse, mother, brother, sister or the guy down the street doing the challenge for you).
- Videos must be no longer than 1 minute and same rule as photos apply (if it's really silly go ahead a share).
- No nudity or rude stuff ok?
- Judges like flowers, dark chocolate, and finger paints.
- Yes the rules are made up and it will get sillier as we go along.
- Rules are subject to change (yes this could be considered a rule too, but we are thinking its more like a special note or sidebar).
JUDGING CRITERIA
Each challenge will be reviewed and scored by a panel of very silly people. The names of panel members will be sealed in a big envelope. The results of the panel cannot be protested. The score reflects the quality of the performance based on key criteria:
Safety
Safety should be considered first and foremost when undertaking any challenge. Please refrain from saying or thinking ‘Hold my drink and watch this…’
Stage presence
Ability to command the attention of an audience by the impressiveness of one's manner or appearance. Anyone can do silly things it in the privacy of their own space. Few have what it takes to accept a Silly Summer Challenge.
Creativity
The last criteria is the most difficult to define yet often the most decisive of all. Creativity is defined as the extent to which the participant’s interpretation of the challenge transcends the limitation of time, space, and silliness then becomes an art form in and of itself.
Please note: Confusion over any part of the aforementioned was the cause of a controversy in the 1998 World Silly Challenge, which tore at the very fabric of competitive silliness.
