LAPs For Laken 5K/Fun Run

Laken was diagnosed with Recurrent Respiratory Papillomas before her first birthday. RRP is a rare disease in which tumors grow inside the larynx, on the vocal cords and sometimes spread to the lungs. Unfortunately, in Laken's case, the papillomas did spread to her lungs and eventually turned into cancer. From the age of 2 to 12, Laken had a tracheostomy. After getting her trach removed at the age of 12, Laken lived a pretty normal life (other than surgeries every 8-12 weeks). For the ones that knew Laken, you probably only knew she was sick because she barely had a voice. Because of her outgoing and contagious personality, Laken was able to fit in and live a full life, just as any other girl her age. Unfortunately, on October 3, 2012, Laken lost her battle with this disease at the age of twenty. She was sure loved & it is so obvious.The love that people had for her speaks volumes to the kind of person she was. This 5K is in memory of her. So, every year in September, around Laken's birthday , we will have the 5K on the square in Hayti. Thanks for your support & being part of this slighty new tradition!
