It is with heavy heart, that the Coeur d’Alene Triathlon has reached the difficult decision that cancelling the 2020 physical race scheduled for August 8 is an unavoidable reality. Due to increased community transmission and a sharp spike in cases in our region, we recognize that keeping public health and safety as our number one priority is the most responsible course of action. Even though we felt our plans to create optimum social distancing for athletes during the race was possible, it is the peripheral activities involved in a triathlon that led us to realize we cannot guarantee the safety of our volunteers, spectators, and friends and family of athletes.
We are sorry but we are unable to offer refunds for the 2020 event. As you know, it costs a good amount of money up front to put on the CDA Triathlon, and with the loss of many of our sponsors, well, that just puts us all in a pickle. BUT, here’s what we do have to offer: The 2020 race will now be virtual, and will include a custom performance tank top, finisher medal (if you post your results) and a custom face mask. We will hold a packet pick up event that will include more swag, TBD. The cost for the virtual event will be $50.00 for individuals, and $75.00 for teams. ALL participants who are currently registered will be issued a $50.00 credit ($75.00 for teams) to put toward the registration of the virtual event. The rest of the registration monies that you have paid will be rolled over to 2021 or 2022. If you choose not to take part in the virtual event, the credit will be treated as a donation. We hope for your understanding in making this difficult decision. None of us could have ever predicted a pandemic, but we’re counting on you to have some fun with the virtual race and enjoy the deferment of the rest of your fees to 2021 or 2022.
