Our Story

Please join or donate to our team so that we can raise $1,000 to help support developmentally delayed individuals at the NEEDS Center. To join our team, click the link to the right of this page ("join team"). You will be asked to create an account (just an email and a password). Go through the prompts ensuring you click on the "commit to raising $150" option. If you are unable to raise $150, the NEEDS Center will cover the difference. This is a "virtual" 5k so you won't need to gather in one location to run or walk this race as a team. You can run or walk from wherever you want, even on a treadmill! The 5k race is scheduled for Sept. 12 – Sept. 21, but you may run or walk any time between the 12th and the 21st. Once you have completed your race, you will need to log your results on this website. Help our team reach our goal for Dougie's Epic Adventure: A Magical Flutie 5K, to raise critical funds for the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism to help people and families affected by autism live life to the fullest! 


Former NFL Quarterback, Doug Flutie, and his wife Laurie started the Doug Flutie, Jr. Flutie Foundation for Autism in 1998 after their son, Dougie, was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. Their personal experience of raising a son on the autism spectrum inspired them to help others on an equally long and challenging journey. Over its 22-year history, the Flutie Foundation has distributed over $15 million to partner schools and organizations who provide clinical therapies, respite services, recreational programs, social skills training, job supports and more for people and families affected by autism.The Flutie Foundation also provides direct financial support to families through initiatives like education technology tools, adaptive camp scholarships, safety equipment, to provide immediate help where it's needed the most.
