The seventh annual Handloggers Half Marathon is now going VIRTUAL for 2020
DUE TO COVID-19 - HANDLOGGERS 2020 WILL BE A VIRTUAL EVENT.
Since the first running of the Handloggers Half Marathon course by a small group of friends in 2014, we've been grateful to host 5 totally awesome events thanks to near perfect weather and a growing number of participants each year. Each year we were so grateful to participants for making possible our significant contributions to the Bowen Island Trail Society and Akili Girls Preparatory School. Funds have been used to support trail navigation improvements on Bowen Island and athletic facilities at the Akili School in Kenya.
This year has turned out differently and COVID-19 and has forced us back to basics.
Nonetheless, this year we'd very much like to continue to raise funds for the Bowen Island Trail Society (www.bowenislandtrailsociety.com) by offering the opportunity for Handloggers alumni to run a virtual trail half marathon which can be run anywhere there is a trail near you. Bowen Islanders may choose to run some of the actual Handloggers course while maybe getting creative with their own variations. Now's maybe your chance to add in that Mount Gardner summit to a half marathon run or to run the course in the opposite direction. Or maybe you want to try the ultimate test: the Handloggers Half and Half - run it first in one direction, then back the other way!
We'd like to emphasize that our virtual run can be completed anywhere you happen to be, whether it's the South Island of New Zealand, or the Chilean altiplano, the important thing is to get out there and run a half marathon (or two) on trails, just as gnarly as you like. We'd sure appreciate your registration for our event and any additional donation you would like to make in support of trail stewardship on Bowen Island's mountain trails. You're also encouraged to share your event memories with us on social media with #Handloggers2020 on our Facebook event page and on Strava.
PLEASE NOTE THIS YEAR IS NOT A SANCTIONED EVENT. WE STRONGLY DISCOURAGE PEOPLE FROM GATHERING IN GROUPS TO RUN. ALSO, BOWEN ISLANDERS WOULD LIKE TO KEEP THE ISLAND COVID-FREE – SO PLEASE CONSIDER THAT IN YOUR CHOICE OF RUN VENUE IF YOU ARE NOT FROM AROUND HERE.
This year, is simply a no frills fund raiser with the opportunity to stay connected through our social media pages.
Our event can be run any time between August 29 and September 7 at any time of day or night.
Registration will be Open until just before midnight on SEPTEMBER 7.
You can register for the event here.
Hope to hear from you and thank you for your support.
Happy trails!
Phil, Alicia, and Margaret (Handloggers Race Committee)
