Muddy Buddy 7K
August 15th @ 11 am until August 23rd @ 6PM, 2020
Are you craving a chipped time race as much as we are at Urban Trail Racing?
Missing the feeling of a common goal? Or maybe you want to dip your toe into trail races. For all those reasons and more we have the 7 km Muddy Buddy. Why a time trial? We wanted a way to keep people safe while still providing some of that race atmosphere.
What we have for you is a Trail & Road 7 km Time Trial, taking place this month! We say this month because you can actually run the race anytime you want between August 15th and 23rd. And if you do it while Muddy York is open you can take advantage of their great patio and beer selection.
What's even better is that it supports two groups dedicated to maintaining and improving Toronto green space: Toronto Region Conservation Foundation and Don't Mess With The Don.
Race kit pick-up will be at Muddy York on the following days:
Saturday, August 15th & Sunday, August 16th, from 11 AM until 3 PM
Wednesday, August 19th from 3 PM until 7 PM
Saturday, August 22nd & Sunday, August 23rd from 9 AM until 3PM
Each bib has a timing chip, which racers will use to "tap in" to start their loop. One race bib is valid for one day, you will be able to use your bib on any single day during the week to record your PB!
Racers start North on Dohme Ave from Muddy York, then turn left on Hollinger Rd. Cross Northdale Blvd and continue to the right down Glenshaw Crescent. In 160m turn left onto Parkview Hill Crescent. Follow the curve to the right before taking a left onto Woodbine Heights Blvd. Continue straight for 500m, at the end of the road the trail access will be on your right. Left at the fork down the steep descent towards Taylor Creek - follow the trail markers. At the bottom, take a right turn and continue along the single track beside the river towards the ravine/DVP.. Follow the access road/bike path towards the DVP before taking a hard left onto the single track trails. Follow course markings counter-clockwise on the trails around the ravine until you return to Taylor Creek. Pass the fire pit (jump it if you feel the need). Climb back up the steep trail and take Boomerang back to the trail head, make sure to curse your Race Directors the whole way. When you emerge from the trails and onto St Clare Ave, take the same route back: along Woodbine Heights to Parkview Hill, diagonally right across Northvale Blvd and onto Hollinger. Down Dohme to the finish at Muddy York. Tap your race number to the timing sensor to finish your loop.
Racers must carry a cell phone with them during their run. If you see wild life during your loop, snap a photo! Best snap of wild life earns free entry to a future UTR event.
Timing mat will record as many loops as you are able to complete in a day. Feel free to walk or jog a lap to familiarize yourself with the course, before pushing for your PB! Your bib will record a maximum of 8 loops (56 km).
If racers will be on course after 7 pm, a headlamp is required. Some single track sections of this course are very narrow and will get dark early.
Trails are open to other users. Please be respectful and safe when passing and interacting with other park users. We should all be aware of social distancing guidelines at this point, and we expect all participants to follow community health guidelines. https://www.toronto.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/9812-Practicing-Social-Distancing_EN.pdf
Toronto City Bylaw restricts park access from 12:01 AM until 5:30 AM.
Parking: We encourage the use of alternate modes of transportation. If you do drive to Muddy York, please park down the street to lessen congestion for other patrons. There is ample street parking in the neighbourhood, especially on the weekends. Run like the wind, and drink responsibly.
