The Polish Independence Run (Bieg Niepodległości) is a race commemorating Poland’s resurgence as an independent state on November 11th, 1918. It has been held for over 30 years in major Polish cities, and in 2018 the idea was brought to the United States. Both the 2018 and the 2019 Polish Independence 10K/5K Run/Walk were organized in Chicago by WPNA 103.1 FM, Polish American Mix, gathering nearly 2,000 runners each year.

In 2020, WPNA-FM, planned to once again hold the run on the beautiful Chicago lakefront at Montrose Harbor. The coronavirus pandemic forced the station to abandon those plans – but we are organizing a virtual run instead! The virtual event will symbolically carry on the tradition of the run into the third year and will give the participants a chance to come together as a community - even if we can’t be physically close to one another.

This year, runners who register online simply choose their own starting line, whether it's a treadmill or a neighborhood street. Because the run does not have a specific location, Polish Americans all over the United States are welcome to participate. The participants run or walk the race distance, either 5 or 10 kilometers, and are mailed a runner’s bib, a custom finisher’s medal and the event T-shirt. All ages event.
