The Big South is thrilled to announce that this year's 5K Road Race will be held virtually in order to ensure the health and safety of the Big South communities and supporters! The Hercules Tires Big South Virtual 5K Road Race serves as a fundraiser for middle school athletic programs in the Charlotte area, including schools in the Mecklenburg, Union and York Counties. Since the inaugural race in 2010, the race has raised over $139,000 for middle school athletics and is looking forward to continuing our trend for the 2020 Road Race!
How does a Virtual 5K work?
 | Register for the Hercules Tires Big South Virtual 5K. We'll mail your shirt and race bib to you! |
 | Fundraise! That's what this event is all about! Also keep your eyes open for multiple opportunities to win prizes and promotional items from our Big South 5K Sponsors! |
 | Run a 5K with your school, team, community, family, or individually between October 18th and November 15th! |
 | Submit your time between October 18th - November 29th to the Hercules Tires Big South Virtual 5K Results. |
This year's entry fees feature two packages:
$30 -- includes a Hercules Tires Big South 5K Road Race t-shirt, race bib, and a digital race bag!
$45 -- includes a race t-shirt, race bib, digital race bag, a finisher medal, and automatic entry to win each of the Grand Prize Give-A-Ways!
The FIRST 100 registrants will receive a dust mask bandana courtesy of Hercules Tires!

Team Divisions
Big South/Charlotte Middle School Team Division
Raise funds for your Charlotte Middle School by signing up to walk or run in the Hercules Tires Big South Virtual 5K! Have a blast while reconnecting your child with their middle school buddies, break a sweat with the Booster Club, or have your Parent/Teacher conferences on-the-go! To register with your school, click on the Register button and have each member select the your middle school's team!
University/College Team Division
Represent your University or Alma Mater! Walk or run with a group of college friends, alumni/staff, or a group of loyal fans and supporters! Each university will be competing with their Big South Conference rivals to see which team can raise the most funds to be donated to the local youth athletic program of their choice. To register with your university, click on the Register button and have each member select your university's team!
Community Team Division
Gather with your friends and families to create a team and walk or run the Hercules Tires Big South Virtual 5K! Bring as many people as you can to join your team. To register as a team, click on the Register button and have the first member of your group (aka your Community Captain) create your team name. Once that is complete, other team members will then be able to select the same community team or your captain will be able to register members collectively!
Corporate Team Division
Represent your company the best way possible: a road race! It's a terrific way to build team spirit and rapport with your coworkers! To register as a team, click on the Register button and have the first member of your company (aka your Corporate Captain) create your team name. Once that is complete, other team members will then be able to select the same corporate team or your captain will be able to register members collectively!
Registration Policies
No Refunds!
If participant indicates a middle school affiliation during the registration process, a percentage of the registration fees will go toward the athletic booster club for the school. Additional donations beyond the registration fee can be made to the school of your choice during the registration “check out."
