Focusing on a distance that we love and admire, the grand daddy, the distance from Marathon to Athens— the traditional 42.195km. And a format, the Ekiden - a multistage relay race, held mostly on roads. It’s origins are rooted in Japan and their amazing running culture features some of the most captivating long-distance running events in the world and they all use the Ekiden format. To connect runners from coast to coast, heck from all corners of the globe, we’ll be using the Virtual Baton App.
Assemble a relay team, set your runner order, then run while passing a single virtual baton between your teammates.
Your team members can be located anywhere in the world.
On race day a real-time leaderboard updates at the end of each runners leg of the relay, ie 10.55, 21.10, 31.65 and 42.195km.
How it Works
1 - Assemble Your Crew
Get a team captain to register your team. The team captain will get an email giving them access to the Virtual Baton app. Use the app to invite runners to your team (four runner teams are strongly encouraged, minimum is 2, maximum is 4), set the order that you’ll run in & track the leaderboard on race day!
When the race begins the first runner will get a notification telling them it’s time to run!
2 - Get to Work
Run your prescribed leg distance, upload your run to Strava, then use the Virtual Baton app to pass a virtual baton to the next runner on your team. They will get a notification telling them that it’s time to get to work!
3 - Keep Working
Pass the baton to each runner on your team to complete the marathon distance, move up the leaderboard, and compete for bragging rights/prizes.
