The Folkerts Fam & Friends is riding and walking to support Adventure4Change!  A4C is a community-based organization that wraps its arms around some of the most wonderful young people in city of Waterloo. A4C works in three low-income neighborhoods to help youth - many of whom are refugees or newcomers to Canada - find their first jobs, learn and practice leadership skills, and develop connections in the Waterloo community. 

COVID-19 has brought a complex set of challenges to youth who were already working hard - to learn English, to catch up and excel in the Canadian school system, and to develop meaningful connections to others. Adapting our youth programming to this context and continuing to provide academic support is critical to ensure that these youth don't fall further behind, or experience further isolation. The surge in attention to racial injustice has also had mixed impacts on many of the youth. These neighborhoods experience relatively higher police presence and part of our youth programming this year will be focused on building a constructive relationship with the Waterloo Police Department.
