RW VC #12 Musagetes

For this event of the RW Virtual Challenge, we have a course set up in Waterloo, Ontario. Access to this event is found in your participant emails or by reaching out to info@runwaterloo.com.

This 5k is 100% pedestrian right-of-way, and there are no signs. It’s a simple out-and-back with a small loop at the end instead of a turnaround (do the turnaround counterclockwise).

For the entire trail, whether there is a yellow line or not, treat the trail as if there is a centre dividing line, and always stay to the right. The course is measured that way, and cutting to the far left can cut distance in several spots.

For the turning loop, do not step on grass. The course is measured from sidewalk to trail, and while it is a tight turn, if you step on the grass you are cutting distance off the course.

The only course marking that will be present for you is the start/finish line. The line is marked on the trail by two small lines of orange spray paint, one on each extreme side, and they are located between the 9^th and 10^th telephone poles from University along that Park Rd. For your reference, the 9^th telephone pole is just past the large Musagetes Trailhead map/sign, and that 9^th telephone pole has a steel bar overhead above the path. So the start/finish is located just east of that pole, before the 10^th pole.

Keep in mind that there are several driveways and small roads that intersect with the course. While you will always have the right-of-way, cars, cyclists, and other pedestrians will not be aware of your race and you should use your own judgment on what is safe and socially appropriate.

This challenge expires on November 30; you must have your result submitted that day by 6pm. You can tackle it as many times as you like and update your time if you wish.
