IMPORTANT NOTICE : December 5, 2019
We are sorry to announce the Great Lakes Marathon Series is no longer accepting new runners into the program and the series will discontinue at the end of the year. While we regret any inconvenience this announcement has caused, we understand this is a lifetime challenge and goal for many, so we fully intend on assisting current participants interested in completing the series and by celebrating their successes with benchmark rewards at 10, 15, and 20 marathons completed.
On December 5, 2019, all participants currently registered in the program received an notice and a request form to indicate whether they will be continuing the series. All inactive or unresponsive participants will be removed from the program January 1, 2020.
The decision to cancel the series was not made lightly, as we wanted to celebrate marathons that make positive impacts for the Great Lakes Basin eco-system as well as continue encouraging passionate runners who dedicated their energy to completing the series. However, after reviving the series in 2016, we encountered challenges with dissipation of marathons and limited options to replace those races in order to uphold the 25-event reward structure.
Thank you for your involvement with supporting marathons making efforts towards sustainability and protecting the eco-system of the Great Lakes Basin.

Information And Rules
All official Great Lakes Marathon Series races completed from 2013 on will count towards completion of the Series. Please note that the Great Lakes Marathon Series can only be accomplished by running the 26.2 mile distances offered by each event. Races run at any other distance will not count towards the completion of the race series. Please note that if you have run any of these races prior to signing up for the Great Lakes Marathon Series, they will not be allowed as fulfillment towards completion of the series. You will have to run the race again.
Series Completion Deadline
There is no time limit to complete the Great Lakes Marathon Series and we encourage participants to complete races at their own pace and reach for a long-term goal. (Please disregard the box on your display that notes a 'series deadline.' This is a system setting through RaceRoster that we are unable to change to more than 2 years in advance.)
Races and Registration
Registrants must complete each race, start line to finish line, within each event’s time requirement. All registrants must sign up for each race individually and comply to race registration guidelines. Being signed up for the Great Lakes Marathon Series does not guarantee entry into any race. You must sign up for each race in the Great Lakes Marathon Series through their own individual registration process. A marathon shall be run without interruption except for natural events such as a thunderstorm. A run temporarily interrupted by a natural event can be counted if at least 26 miles 385 yards has been completed, and is allowed by that Marathon’s race director.
Results
When a registered member has completed the Great Lakes Marathon Series Races, each one of their races will be verified by a Great Lakes Marathon Series administrator. The finisher award will be provided at no additional cost to all finishers who have completed all races in the series.
