TUCSON MARATHON 50TH RUNNING! |
Come be a part of history as we celebrate the 50th Running of the Tucson Marathon. We will have 6-time winner Soro Bassarima as our official Race Ambassador and 50th running commemorative merchandise available at the expo.
The very first Tucson Marathon was held on February 15, 1969. The race started at Tucson City Hall, went East to Randolph Park, then circled back to City Hall. The event was called the Arizona Admittance Day Marathon celebrating Arizona becoming a part of the union on February 14th, 1914. The inaugural event had 112 finishers of the 170 that started with the overall winner Ron Hall, a Sunnyside Grad, completing the marathon in 2 hours 41 minutes and 46 seconds.
The Holualoa Tucson Marathon Events have been run annually since 1995, growing from 800 participants to over 4000 throughout that period. Our races have proven to be favorites for local runners as well as visitors, with 48 states and 7 foreign countries being represented last year. The combination of a fast course with moderate to cool race time temperatures makes these races a popular choice for runners searching for a personal best. Our course is consistently ranking as a top 10 Boston qualifying course. Whether you’re looking for a fast competitive event, or simply a ‘leisurely’ 26.2-mile morning run, the Tucson Marathon races will be a good fit.
Looking for a new road distance beyond the marathon and would like to have the status of being an ultra-marathoner? We have your event! Run the inaugural Oracle /Catalina 50K.
A Pre-Race Expo on Friday, December 3rd (9 am until 7 pm.) will be held at the Hilton El Conquistador Resort, 10000 N. Oracle Road. Packet pick-up and on-site registration will be available at the Expo. There will be no packet pick up or registration for the long-distance events on race morning so runners who have not registered must do so at the Race Expo.
