Cohasset Rotary Club

Rotary International is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

The Cohasset Rotary Club is a part of Rotary International. For more than 60 years, the Cohasset club has provided thousands of hours of community service, hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships and other charitable donations.  Cohasset Rotary's biggest fundraisers are the Cohasset Road-Race-by-the-Sea and the Rotary telephone book.   We have proudly supported our local and international community thru Special Olympics, Cohasset Food Pantry, local Boy Scouts, Cohasset Historical Society, South Shore Arts Center, student college scholarships; and the Appalachia Service project. Internationally support has included medical and peace projects such as eradicating Polio worldwide over the last 50 years, working toward clean water for all people, and mission trips and the list goes on.

Internationally they are 1.2 million members strong, with representation in more than 160 countries with over 35,000 clubs on six continents. Since their founding in 1905 they have been dedicated to world peace and to helping those in need. It was the world’s first service club. They were involved in the formation of the United Nations, and remain dedicated to that body today, especially with their support of UNESCO.

The world mission of Rotary International is the eradication of polio, and, great progress has been made.  Rotary focus also includes promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, supporting education, growing local economies and protecting the environment. 

The name Rotary came from the early practice of “rotating” meetings between the offices of the few members. Rotary Clubs, especially in New England have become more and more involved in race direction and promotion as a means of promoting and sustaining their charitable causes.
