My Story...
Gp was diagnosed with ALL in February of 2017. He received chemotherapy until May 2020. Thats over 1200 days of cancer treatment.
In this time Gianpaolo has had the honour of participating in and out of hospital programs with camp Ooch. He has also been to day camp two years in a row. It has allowed him to just be a kid. Enjoying things he couldn’t before due to meds, bad chemo side effects and care. He has one to one care at camp. They have nurses on site who wonderfully volunteer their time away from the hospital to give chemo. Seeing chemo hung from a tree is pretty common. He has experienced things like canoeing- swimming- archery and so many other amazing outdoor activities. Giving GP the opportunity to participate in activities while receiving treatment in hospital was so essential for him. He made such important connections through these activities. The experience, the healing power through friendship, fun and most importantly self-confidence.
Through this pandemic they have kept us all connected with weekly activities through zoom. We can’t wait for our spring break program! Ooch has become like family to us and we are forever grateful.Help us help Ooch and bring more children joy through their difficult journey through cancer.
Description
A diagnosis of childhood cancer changes life in an instant.
For affected kids and families, it can suddenly feel like everything is about cancer. Camp Ooch offers a hopeful journey, where kids with cancer can just be kids, and families connect with a community of strength and support when they need it the most.
They are much more than a summer camp—they offer the social cure for childhood cancer. Their camp-inspired programs deliver fun, friendship, and community to 1,900 kids and 745 families year-round, all across Ontario. As a response to COVID-19, virtual camp and in-hospital programs continue to reach kids and families living in isolation, wherever they are.
