My Story…
Hi my name is Emma McDonald and I am so excited to be running with NF Northeast this year! I was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis (NF) when I was 18 months old. NF is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body. My doctor noticed a slight droop in my right eye during my freshman year of high school. He ordered MRI scans of my brain and they discovered a benign brain tumor in the region of my pituitary gland. My doctors at Boston Children’s Hospital decided the best course of action was yearly MRIS to watch the growth of the tumor. I went for my yearly MRI scan during the fall of my senior year of high school and the doctors noticed my tumor had grown. The growth of the tumor was restricting fluid from properly flowing throughout my brain. My team of doctors at Boston Children’s decided that surgery was the best option for me. On October 26, 2017 Dr. Goumnerova operated and was able to remove about 50% of the tumor. I am healthy and my team of doctors continue to watch my tumor. I am running the Falmouth Road Race for NF Northeast in hopes of one day finding a cure for NF! Thank you for considering donating to my page! #endnf #birthmarknation
