My Story…
Most of my life I have tried to live by setting examples and leading for my younger sister, Erika, especially after we lost our mother when I was twenty and she was seventeen years old. As we’ve gotten older we have had the privilege of being there for each other and guiding each other through adulthood. She recently told me about empowerHER, an organization started in Massachusetts which supports young girls and women going through a life altering loss while they are surrounded with community, guidance, and love. Erika signed up for the Falmouth Road race and decided to fundraise for this organization; this time it was my younger sister setting the example for me. I thought of how much she has grown, how much my mother would be proud of her, and how much she would love the idea of the two of us doing this together. I am proud to be a runner for the empowerHER team this year alongside Erika, thank you for your donations and support!
Description
empowerHER® was formed in 2013 with a very specific mission—to empower, support and connect girls and young women up to age 24 who have experienced the loss of their mothers. empowerHER® is a supportive and inclusive community that offers year-round EVENTS for GIRLS that provides peer support and reminds girls they are not alone in their grief. Our MENTOR PROGRAM matches girls and young women with positive role models from the community to show “loss is survivable.”
